Welcome to AI Fashion Lab
AI Fashion Lab is an independent digital heritage practice dedicated to the AI-assisted restoration, reconstruction, and visual historiography of historical fashion. The project focuses on the reconstruction, colourisation, and visual reinterpretation of archival photographs, with particular emphasis on Thai court portraiture, historical dress, and monastic heritage.
Developed as a self-initiated research practice, AI Fashion Lab combines rigorous historical investigation with principles of conservation ethics. Artificial intelligence and machine learning are employed as methodological tools that enhance—rather than replace—archival scholarship. Each work is informed by the study of period costume, textile history, and visual culture, ensuring historical accuracy while reactivating cultural memory through contemporary digital technologies.
By bridging traditional costume knowledge with advanced digital restoration and reconstruction techniques, AI Fashion Lab transforms fragile or monochrome historical images into refined visual reconstructions. In addition, machine learning approaches are explored to generate new historical fashion collections grounded in archival research and historical dress studies.
Operating at the intersection of digital heritage preservation, archival research, and visual storytelling, the project seeks to bring the past into renewed visibility for both scholarly and public audiences.
