ในทศวรรษ 1960 สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ ทรงมีบทบาทสำคัญในการพัฒนาเครื่องแต่งกายไทยให้ร่วมสมัย โดยไม่ละทิ้งเอกลักษณ์ของวัฒนธรรมประจำชาติ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในโอกาสเสด็จเยือนสหรัฐอเมริกาและยุโรปอย่างเป็นทางการในปี พ.ศ. 2503 (ค.ศ. 1960) ซึ่งทรงฉลองพระองค์ชุดตะวันตกจากห้องเสื้อ ปิแอร์ บัลแมง (Pierre Balmain) แห่งกรุงปารีส

ใน AI Collection ที่กำลังสร้างสรรค์ในช่วงนี้ ผมได้ออกแบบ ชุดไทยจักรี โดยเลือกใช้ ผ้ายกดิ้นทองทั้งชุด เสริมด้วย เทียร่าแบบตะวันตก เพื่อสื่อถึงพระราชนิยมในช่วงทศวรรษ 1960 ที่ผสมผสานความอ่อนหวาน สุภาพ และสง่างาม พร้อมทั้งยังเป็นการแสดงให้เห็นว่า “เทคโนโลยี AI” สามารถรังสรรค์แฟชั่นไทยแบบวินเทจได้อย่างทรงพลัง
ด้วยความตั้งใจนี้ ผมจึงรังสรรค์ AI Collection ที่นำเสนอชุดไทยพระราชนิยมทั้ง ๘ แบบ ผ่านมุมมองร่วมสมัย โดยผสมผสานกลิ่นอายของแฟชั่นยุค 1960s อย่างกลมกลืน ทั้งในด้านทรงผม องค์ประกอบภาพ ไปจนถึงแสงและเงา เนื่องจากชุดไทยพระราชนิยมถือกำเนิดขึ้นในช่วงเวลานั้น อีกทั้งในปีหน้า #UNESCO มีแนวโน้มจะประกาศขึ้นทะเบียน “ชุดไทยพระราชนิยม” ให้เป็นมรดกภูมิปัญญาทางวัฒนธรรมของโลก เราทุกคนจึงควรร่วมภาคภูมิใจ อนุรักษ์ และส่งต่อมรดกอันทรงคุณค่านี้สู่อนาคต
“ความสง่างามแบบวินเทจสไตล์ไทย” จึงไม่ใช่เพียงความย้อนยุค แต่คือการรื้อฟื้นคุณค่าแห่งอดีตด้วยมุมมองใหม่ผ่านเทคโนโลยีสร้างสรรค์ร่วมสมัย

In the 1960s, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand played a pivotal role in modernising Thai fashion while preserving its rich cultural heritage. During her 1960 state visits to the United States and Europe, the Queen was dressed by the renowned Parisian couturier Pierre Balmain, who was commissioned to create a Western-style wardrobe reflecting both international elegance and Thai identity.
One of the highlights of this collaboration was the creation of Chud Thai Chakri (ชุดไทยจักรี), a formal Thai national dress reimagined for the modern world. Balmain worked closely with François Lesage, the legendary embroiderer known for his atelier's intricate embellishments. Lesage’s mastery of embroidery brought new refinement to traditional Thai silk, fusing Western haute couture techniques with Siamese craftsmanship.
Balmain and Lesage were not merely adapting Thai attire for the Western eye—they were actively participating in the evolution of Thai national dress. Their creations helped define a new aesthetic standard for Thai ceremonial dress in the modern era.
This particular dress, a Chud Thai Chakri, is made of richly brocaded silk and adorned with gold-thread embroidery. It includes a traditional pha yok (ผ้ายก) skirt with front pleats (jeep-nha-nang), an elegant Thai-style belt, and a shoulder sash (sabai) that may be either integrated into the garment or draped separately. The ensemble is typically accessorised with traditional Thai jewellery—armlets, necklaces, and bracelets—and in some cases, a Western-style tiara, symbolising the cross-cultural sophistication of the Queen’s royal presence abroad.
