ในขณะที่ผมกำลังพัฒนาโปรเจกต์อีกชุดว่าด้วยแฟชั่นไทยในยุค 1940s ที่ได้รับอิทธิพลจากนโยบาย “มาลานำไทย” — นโยบายส่งเสริมการแต่งกายของรัฐซึ่งเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของ “รัฐนิยม” - เพื่อหล่อหลอมเอกลักษณ์ชาติ — ผมพลันนึกถึงนวนิยาย “คู่กรรม” และความเกี่ยวเนื่องของยุคนั้นในนวนิยาย ผมจึงสร้างสรรค์คอลเลกชันเฉพาะกิจนี้ขึ้นมา เพื่อถ่ายทอดภาพจำของสังคมไทยในห้วงเวลาแห่งการเปลี่ยนผ่าน ผ่านรูปทรงเสื้อผ้า เครื่องแบบ และหมวกอันเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของความทันสมัยและความรักชาติของสตรีไทยในยุคนั้น

ด้านการออกแบบเครื่องแบบทหารญี่ปุ่น ผมได้ศึกษาข้อมูลจากแหล่งภาพและภาพยนตร์ประวัติศาสตร์ เพื่อให้การสร้างภาพ AI มีความแม่นยำทั้งในแง่เครื่องแบบภาคสนาม เครื่องแต่งกายพิธีการ ไปจนถึงเครื่องหมายยศ อาวุธประจำกาย และเครื่องแต่งตัว โดยใช้ LoRA model ที่ฝึกจากภาพจริงเพื่อให้ได้ผลลัพธ์ที่ถูกต้องด้วยรายละเอียดและบรรยากาศของยุคสมัยอย่างแท้จริง

ในอดีต แม้จะมีการดัดแปลงนวนิยาย “คู่กรรม” หลายเวอร์ชันทั้งในจอแก้วและจอเงิน แต่มีเพียงไม่กี่ครั้งที่สามารถถ่ายทอด นโยบายของรัฐในยุคสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 ออกมาอย่างมีน้ำหนักเท่าที่ควร คอลเลกชันนี้จึงเป็นความพยายามในการเติมเต็มช่องว่างนั้น — โดยไม่ได้เพียงบอกเล่าความรักระหว่างโกโบริกับอังศุมาลินเท่านั้น แต่ยังแสดงให้เห็นถึงบริบทของความเป็น “ชาติ” ที่ขับเคลื่อนด้วยวินัย เครื่องแบบ และอุดมการณ์

AI กลายเป็นเครื่องมือสำคัญในการสร้างสรรค์ภาพให้กับตัวละครและมู้ดบอร์ดที่ใช้ในงานออกแบบคอสตูม AI ยังช่วยลดเวลาการวาดด้วยมือแบบดั้งเดิม และสนับสนุนกระบวนการตัดสินใจในเชิงสุนทรียะได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ

สำหรับผมในฐานะนักออกแบบเครื่องแต่งกาย เทคโนโลยี AI ไม่ใช่เพียงสิ่งทดแทนแรงงานมนุษย์ หากแต่เป็นเครื่องมือร่วมสมัยที่ช่วยเพิ่มมิติของความแม่นยำ และเปิดโอกาสให้ผลงานสามารถสื่อสารได้ทั้งด้านอารมณ์ บริบท และประวัติศาสตร์ในเวลาเดียวกัน

AI Fashion Collection: “Khu Kam” and the Silhouettes of War, Nation, and Love

This AI-generated fashion collection is inspired by “Khu Kam”, the timeless Thai wartime romance novel written by Thommayanti, which has touched generations with its tale of love, loss, and national identity during the Second World War. As I was developing a separate collection centred on the 1940s and the Thai nationalist dress policy known as “Mala Nam Thai” (Hat Leads the Nation), I was reminded of Khu Kam’s evocative setting—a Thailand under Japanese occupation, marked by cultural upheaval, military presence, and deeply personal sacrifices. This led me to create a dedicated series exploring the fashion, uniforms, and social codes of that era.

The silhouettes in this collection closely reference 1940s womenswear—tailored blouse-and-skirt sets, modest tea dresses, structured jackets cinched at the waist, and the iconic straw sun hats that became symbols of the Mala Nam Thaicampaign. This state-driven policy sought to modernise Thai fashion and foster national unity through Westernised dress codes, particularly emphasising hats for women as emblems of modernity, modesty, and patriotic femininity.

For the military side of the collection, I conducted detailed visual research on the Japanese Imperial Army uniforms worn in Thailand during the occupation. I trained my LoRA model on authentic archival imagery to generate accurate portrayals of both field and dress uniforms, complete with rank insignia, leather accessories, and period-correct headgear. These AI-enhanced renderings were developed not just as design illustrations but also as mood board elements that support film and television costume design—a workflow I am currently applying in my professional projects.

While past adaptations of Khu Kam have captured the emotional gravity of the story, few have succeeded in representing the visual language of nationalist fashion policy and military influence during World War II. This collection attempts to bridge that gap by visualising not just the romance between Kobori and Angsumalin, but also the larger socio-political landscape they were bound by. The AI medium offers a powerful tool for reimagining this world—not to replace reality, but to complement creative research and revive overlooked layers of historical narrative.

In each frame, from the military drills at temple ruins to the fleeting glances on the railway platform, I invite you to witness a visual echo of a nation in transition—where duty, identity, and love all wore uniforms of their own.
