คอลเลกชัน AI ชุดนี้ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากแฟชั่นในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 7 และลวดลายผ้าซิ่นตีนจกของเชียงใหม่ โดยมีฉากหลังเป็นเมืองเชียงใหม่ในช่วงต้นคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 20 ผมได้เพิ่มหมวกโคลช (cloche hat) ลงในภาพเพื่อเป็นการเพิ่มบริบททางด้านวัฒนธรรมและการแต่งกาย อันสะท้อนถึงกระแสแฟชั่นตะวันตกที่กำลังเฟื่องฟูในช่วงเวลาเดียวกัน

โครงการนี้เป็นการทดลองการผสมผสานอย่างงดงามระหว่างความถูกต้องทางประวัติศาสตร์และความสร้างสรรค์ด้วย AI โดยเน้นไปที่แฟชั่นของสยามในยุครัชกาลที่ 7 ช่วงทศวรรษ 1920 การออกแบบในโครงการนี้ได้นำซิลลูเอตต์แบบแฟลปเปอร์ ซึ่งได้รับความนิยมอย่างแพร่หลายในตะวันตก มาผสมผสานกับเอกลักษณ์แบบไทย โดยใช้รูปลักษณ์เอวต่ำที่เกิดจากการจับคู่เสื้อตัวยาวกับผ้าซิ่นแบบดั้งเดิม

ในการดำเนินโครงการนี้ ผมได้ฝึก AI สองโมเดลและใช้ร่วมกันโดยกำหนดน้ำหนักที่แตกต่างกัน โมเดลแรก ผมใช้แอปพลิเคชัน AI เพื่อเติมสีให้กับภาพถ่ายขาวดำต้นฉบับจากหอจดหมายเหตุแห่งชาติของไทย ซึ่งเป็นกระบวนการที่พิถีพิถันและใช้เวลามาก แต่ช่วยให้ชุดข้อมูลมีความถูกต้องทางประวัติศาสตร์อย่างแท้จริง โมเดลที่สองได้รับการฝึกเฉพาะสำหรับผ้าซิ่นโดยเฉพาะผ้าซิ่นตีนจกจากภาคเหนือ เพื่อรวบรวมความหลากหลายของ ลวดลาย ที่สะท้อนถึงความมั่งคั่งของมรดกสิ่งทอในยุคนั้น

Echoes of Lanna: Fashion from Chiang Mai in the Early Reign of King Rama VII

This AI collection is inspired by the fashion of King Rama VII’s era and the intricate teen-jok (ตีนจก) patterns of Chiang Mai’s traditional pha-sin (ผ้าซิ่น), set against the backdrop of Chiang Mai in the early 20th century. I incorporated cloche hats into the images to add cultural and sartorial context, reflecting the influence of Western fashion that was flourishing during the same period.

This project is an experimental blend of historical accuracy and AI-driven creativity, with a focus on Lanna fashion during the 1920s in the reign of King Rama VII. The designs combine the popular Western flapper silhouette with distinctive Thai elements—particularly the dropped waist look achieved by pairing long blouses with traditional pha-sin.

To create this project, I trained and utilised two AI models with differing weights. The first involved an AI application used to colourise original black-and-white photographs from Thailand’s National Archives—a meticulous and time-consuming process that ensured genuine historical accuracy in the dataset. The second model was specifically trained on Northern Thai pha-sin, particularly teen-jok textiles, to capture the diversity of patterns that reflect the region’s rich textile heritage.

By merging the two models, I was able to produce images that accurately represent the fashion silhouette of the 1920s. Though the colours used may appear modern, the fashion forms remain faithful to the original archival photographs. This approach breathes new life into the charm of 1920s Lanna fashion—revived in a way that is both fresh and deeply rooted in historical authenticity.
