The royal tunic was a short grey tunic, fastened with seven plain gold buttons concealed within the front placket. Red piping decorated the front placket, the front and back pockets, and the sleeves. The collar was made of red wool cloth and embroidered along its full edge. For officers of field marshal rank, the regulations prescribed that the collar should be fully embroidered in gold. The uniform was worn with a braided gold-silk sash with paired fringed ends, and officers of general and field marshal rank were also required to wear an aiguillette as an additional indication of rank.
The shoulder boards, or epaulettes, for officers of general and field marshal rank were to follow the infantry pattern, with red branch-colour cloth and gold braid embroidered around the edges. For branches of the army where a different branch colour was considered appropriate, the Commander of the Department of Military Operations was authorised to determine the colour as deemed suitable. Rank insignia was marked by the use of chakras: one chakra for a major general, two chakras for a lieutenant general, and three chakras for a general.
For officers of field marshal rank, the shoulder boards followed the same basic form described above, but were fully embroidered in gold thread across the entire surface. At the shoulder end, they were further decorated with a crossed baton and sword made of silver-coloured metal.
Later, when the Royal Regulations for Army Uniform Dress, Rattanakosin Era 127, were promulgated in 1908, they prescribed that officers of general and field marshal rank should use infantry-style shoulder boards, with magenta as the branch colour, and with the entire shoulder board embroidered in gold thread. The use of chakra rank insignia remained unchanged. For the rank of field marshal, however, a silver Phra Kiao emblem was added above the crossed baton and sword as an additional element.
