จินตนาการถึงกรุงเทพฯ ในช่วงปลายรัชกาลพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ในโลกคู่ขนานที่สังคมไทยรับเอาแฟชั่นตะวันตกเข้ามาปรับใช้ในบริบทแฟชั่นไทย คอลเลกชันนี้นำเสนอความงามแบบอาร์ตเดโคยุค 1920 ผ่านชุดเดรสแบบผสมผสานที่ประดับด้วยงานปักอันประณีต และโครงร่างเงาแบบไทยๆ เช่นการนุ่งผ้าซิ่น สไตล์นี้สะท้อนถึงความหรูหราและสง่างามของยุคสมัยในบริบทแบบไทยผสมตะวันตก เข้ากับบรรยากาศของกรุงเทพฯ ได้เป็นอย่างดี

คอลเลกชันนี้ ผมได้เพิ่มเครื่องแต่งกายสุภาพบุรุษ แฟชั่นชุดสูทแบบ evening dress แบบสากล ในทศวรรษ 1920 สูทแบบ white tie พร้อมเสื้อโค้ตหางยาวแบบราตรีสโมสร พร้อมกับโบว์ไทสีขาว และเสื้อกั๊กสีงาช้าง การแต่งตัวที่ถูกธรรมเนียมสากลแบบนี้ สื่อถึงความสง่างามแบบชายสยามในยุคที่เปิดรับวัฒนธรรมตะวันตกในสมัย ร ๖

Siamese Fashion in the Late Reign of King Vajiravudh (Part 2)

Imagine Bangkok during the late reign of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI), in a parallel world where Thai society fully embraced and adapted Western fashion into the Thai context. This collection presents the beauty of 1920s Art Deco through hybrid-style dresses adorned with exquisite embroidery and featuring silhouettes inspired by traditional Thai elements, such as the pha sin (tube skirt). This style reflects the luxury and elegance of the era, blending Thai and Western aesthetics seamlessly with the atmosphere of Bangkok at the time.

For this collection, I have also introduced gentlemen’s attire, featuring Western-style evening dress fashion from the 1920s — white tie ensembles with long tailcoats, white bow ties, and ivory waistcoats. This formal dress code, adhering to international standards, reflects the elegance of Siamese gentlemen during a period when Western culture was being embraced in the reign of King Rama VI.

Art Deco, or the style of "Decorative Art," was one of the most influential design movements of the early 20th century, characterised by geometric shapes, bold symmetry, and luxurious materials. It originated in France during the 1910s and reached its peak in the 1920s and 1930s. This artistic movement celebrated modernity, technological progress, and a fascination with sleek beauty, distinguishing itself from the flowing, curvilinear lines of Art Nouveau by embracing straight lines, sharp angles, and geometric patterns. It heavily influenced fashion and attire, promoting opulent styles with geometric silhouettes and metallic elements such as gold, silver, and copper.

1920s Fashion: A New Era of Elegance

The 1920s marked a revolutionary period in fashion. Women began to abandon the restrictive clothing of earlier decades and embraced garments with freer, more flowing lines. The flapper style became emblematic of this era, characterised by lowered waistlines, knee-length dresses, and luxurious embellishments designed by renowned couturiers such as Jeanne Lanvin, Coco Chanel, and Paul Poiret. The dresses in this collection reflect the exquisite beauty of Art Deco fashion, featuring intricate embroidery, beadwork, and appliqué techniques. Accessories such as pearl necklaces, beaded and feathered headbands, satin gloves, and high-heeled shoes further enhanced the overall look, creating an impression of sophistication and elegance.

Several images are particularly close to my heart — especially those featuring pha sin woven with gold-threaded hems, adorned with golden bead tassels, paired with a shoulder-draped silk blouse woven with gold brocade, and a natural pearl necklace with uneven-sized pearls. These small, delicate details significantly elevate the beauty of the ensembles.

This collection, therefore, offers a vision of Bangkok’s elegance and modernity during the 1920s — a crafted historical moment where modernism, luxury, and the artistry of Western fashion blend harmoniously with Thai aesthetics.
