เนื่องจากสมเด็จพระบรมราชชนนีพันปีหลวงเป็นผู้สำเร็จราชการแทนพระองค์ขณะที่พระบรมราชสวามีเสด็จออกผนวช เมื่อปี พ.ศ. ๒๔๙๙ ระหว่างวันที่ ๒๒ ตุลาคม ถึง ๕ พฤศจิกายน พระองค์จึงได้รับการสถาปนาขึ้นเป็น สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ เมื่อวันที่ ๕ ธันวาคม พ.ศ. ๒๔๙๙ ถือเป็นสมเด็จพระบรมราชินีนาถพระองค์ที่ ๒ ของอาณาจักรรัตนโกสินทร์ ต่อจากสมเด็จพระศรีพัชรินทราบรมราชินีนาถ พระบรมราชชนนีพันปีหลวง ในรัชกาลที่ ๕
สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ พระบรมราชชนนีพันปีหลวงทรงพระประชวรด้วยภาวะพระโรคหลอดเลือดสมองเฉียบพลันเมื่อ พ.ศ. ๒๕๕๕ นับแต่นั้นได้ทรงงดการปรากฏพระองค์ต่อสาธารณชน เพื่อพักฟื้นพระวรกายตามคำแนะนำของคณะแพทย์ พร้อมทั้งเสด็จไปประทับรักษาพระอาการประชวรที่โรงพยาบาลจุฬาลงกรณ์ตั้งแต่วันที่ ๗ กันยายน พ.ศ. ๒๕๖๒ จนกระทั่งวันที่ ๒๔ ตุลาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๖๘ สำนักพระราชวังได้ประกาศว่าพระองค์เสด็จสวรรคตด้วยพระอาการติดเชื้อในกระแสพระโลหิต สิริพระชนมพรรษา ๙๓ พรรษา
ทรงดำรงตำแหน่งเป็นองค์กุลเชษฐ์ ตั้งแต่วันที่ ๑๓ ตุลาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๕๙ ถึงวันที่ ๒๔ ตุลาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๖๘ เป็นเวลา ๙ ปี ๑๑ วัน

Her Majesty Queen Sirikit was Queen Consort to King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and later Queen Mother to King Rama 10. She held the title of Queen Consort for the longest duration in Thai history. She was a member of the royal family born before the reign of King Rama 9 and the last surviving royal of that generation. By virtue of her age, she became Phra Kunlachet No. 29 of the Chakri Dynasty, holding this position from the passing of her royal consort on 13 October 2016 until her own passing on 24 October 2025.
As Queen Sirikit served as Regent during the period when King Bhumibol Adulyadej temporarily entered the monkhood in 1956, between 22 October and 5 November, she was formally elevated to the title Queen Sirikit, The Queen Consorton 5 December 1956. She was the second Queen Consort of the Rattanakosin Kingdom, following Queen Saovabha Phongsri, Queen Consort during the reign of King Rama 5.
In 2012, Queen Sirikit suffered an acute stroke. From that time onwards, she ceased public appearances in order to recover under medical supervision. She was admitted to Chulalongkorn Hospital on 7 September 2019, where she remained until her passing on 24 October 2025. The Royal Household Bureau announced that she passed away due to sepsis. She was 93 years old.
She held the position of Phra Kunlachet from 13 October 2016 to 24 October 2025, a total period of 9 years and 11 days.

(สมเด็จพระเจ้าลูกเธอ เจ้าฟ้าอุบลรัตนราชกัญญา สิริวัฒนาพรรณวดี), is the eldest daughter of King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother. She is the only elder full sister of King Rama 10 and has been Phra Kunlachet No. 30 of the Chakri Dynasty and the current senior royal elder since the passing of Queen Sirikit on 24 October 2025.
After completing her undergraduate degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, United States of America, she relinquished her royal status to marry Peter Ladd Jensen in a royal wedding ceremony held at the Grand Palace, in accordance with royal tradition. She subsequently resided in the United States from 1972 and returned permanently to Thailand in 2001.
She has since undertaken extensive public and charitable work, particularly in the prevention and rehabilitation of drug addiction, most notably through the establishment of the To Be Number One Project for youth. She has provided assistance and opportunities for persons with disabilities, young people, and victims of natural disasters. In addition, she has acted in several films based on her own screenplays and has served as a television programme presenter.
She has held the position of Phra Kunlachet from 24 October 2025 to the present.
