This second AI-restored and creatively reimagined collection presents the portrait of Major General Chao Boonwat Wongmanit [นายพลตรี เจ้าบุญวาทย์วงษ์มานิต ฯ], the last ruler of Lampang [เจ้าผู้ครองนครลำปางองค์สุดท้าย].
The portraits in this collection were inspired and imagined from an original photograph taken during the reign of King Vajiravudh [พระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว, รัชกาลที่ ๖], when Chao Boonwat travelled to Bangkok [กรุงเทพฯ] to pay homage to His Majesty. It may have been on the occasion of the Royal Oath of Allegiance Ceremony [พระราชพิธีถือน้ำพระพิพัฒน์สัตยา] during Rama VI’s reign.
The original image comes from a glass-plate negative [ฟิล์มกระจก] preserved at the National Library of Thailand [หอสมุดแห่งชาติ] in Bangkok. It was taken in front of a building believed to be within the grounds of the Grand Palace [พระบรมมหาราชวัง].
I have imagined that this portrait was taken at Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram [วัดพระศรีรัตนศาสดาราม, วัดพระแก้ว], during his visit to pay homage to the Emerald Buddha [พระพุทธมหามณีรัตนปฏิมากร], or perhaps on the occasion of the Royal Oath of Allegiance Ceremony [พระราชพิธีถือน้ำพระพิพัฒน์สัตยา] in the reign of King Vajiravudh. The colours have therefore been rendered in a vibrant, lifelike manner, reflecting the atmosphere of that era.
