“วันสมเด็จพระมหาธีรราชเจ้า” หรือที่รู้จักกันว่า “วันวชิราวุธ” และ “วันลูกเสือไทย” ตรงกับวันที่ ๒๕ พฤศจิกายนของทุกปี อันเป็นวันคล้ายวันสวรรคตของพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ ๖ หรือ “สมเด็จพระมหาธีรราชเจ้า” เพื่อเป็นการเทิดพระเกียรติและน้อมรำลึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณอันล้นพ้นของพระองค์
พระองค์ทรงบำเพ็ญพระราชกรณียกิจสำคัญนานัปการ ทั้งด้านการคมนาคม การบริหารราชการแผ่นดิน ศิลปวัฒนธรรม และวรรณคดี อีกทั้งยังทรงเป็นผู้สถาปนากิจการเสือป่าและลูกเสือไทย เพื่ออบรมเยาวชนและประชาชนให้มีความรู้ ความมีระเบียบวินัย ความเสียสละ ความสามัคคี และความพร้อมในการดูแลป้องกันตนเอง ตลอดจนสังคมและชุมชนของตน ภายใต้คติพจน์อันทรงคุณค่าแห่งลูกเสือคือ
“เสียชีพอย่าเสียสัตย์”
น้อมสำนึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณหาที่สุดมิได้

He also established the Wild Tiger Corps and the Thai Scouting Movement to cultivate knowledge, discipline, unity, selflessness, and civic responsibility among both youth and the general public. These institutions were built upon the noble guiding principle of the Scouts:
“Life may be lost, but honour must be preserved.”
